1 MONTICELLO | CHANTILLY: Join us today as we embark on a special Grand Tour of Washington, DC. This afternoon we visit Monticello, a showcase to the genius of Thomas Jefferson. You'll be amazed at the modern inventions Jefferson built into his home as early as 1810! From here we travel to Chantilly, Virginia where our accommodations await us the next four nights. 2 IWO JIMA | ARLINGTON CEMETERY | NATIONAL CATHEDRAL | MEMORIALS: This morning we start the day by visiting the impressive Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial before visiting the Arlington Cemetery for a narrated tram tour. Here we see the grave of Robert Kennedy and the Eternal Flame at the gravesite of President John F. Kennedy. We'll witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After lunch on your own at Union Station we drive down beautiful Embassy Row to see the many stately mansions now housing Embassies from all over the world. Our next stop will be the National Cathedral where we have a guided tour of this impressive building. Before going to our hotel we visit Jefferson and FDR Memorials. We have an included dinner this evening. (D) 3 DC SIGHTSEEING MEMORIALS AND MONUMENTS | US CAPITOL VISITOR CENTER | HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM: Just a short drive takes us back to the our Nation's Capital where we visit the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and the Vietnam Memorial. We have an included lunch & rest up a bit before we continue our sightseeing. We will have time for a photo stop at the White House before we visit the US Capitol Visitors Center. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum will be our next stop. (L) 4 SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS | DINNER: Today you may divide your time between the many buildings of the Smithsonian Institute according to your interest. The museums of the National Mall area include: American History, Natural History, National Air and Space, American Indian, National Gallery of Art, Hirshhorn Gallery of Modern Art, African Art, Freer Gallery, and Sackler Gallery of Asian Art. There are so many sights and other museums such as the Spy Museum and the Newseum within walking distance of the area. The day is yours to enjoy as you please. (D) 5 MT VERNON | HOME: This morning we travel to Mt. Vernon, the restored house and farm of George Washington. George brought his bride here in 1759 and began his plan to become the leading scientific farmer in America. After touring Mt. Vernon and lunch in the food court, we make our way home arriving in the early evening. (L)
